What is Halibut?
Halibut is a member of the flatfish family and finds its home in both the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean. The average sized Halibut weighs around 30-50 pounds each, but they can get up to near 500 pounds! There are smaller Halibut though, some weighing as little as 2-10 pounds.
What varieties of Halibut does Groomer’s carry?
Groomer’s carries two types of Halibut, the Alaskan and the Norwegian. Typically, Alaskan is what is on the menu unless the Alaskan season is closed. During this time, we change over to the Norwegian. Both types are quite similar, but some do note a slightly better flavor in the Alaskan. Try them both for yourself to see what you think!
How do you cook Halibut?
Halibut lends itself to most forms of cooking, especially grilling, roasting and sauteing. One does need to be careful though, as with its delicate flavor and texture, it tastes best when just barely cooked through. Overcooking will leave you with a dry dish.
What does Halibut Taste Like?
Firm, white, and mildly sweet, halibut is well-suited for just about every cooking method. This type of fish should not be overpowered by aggressive sauces or marinades.
What are the health benefits of Halibut?
Other than being high in quality protein, Halibut is packed with a variety of other nutrients like Selenium, potassium, phosphorous, magnesium, vitamins B12 and B6, niacin, and most importantly omega 3 fatty acids!
